On September 27, 2019, Croatian Shipowners' Association Mare Nostrum presented the GUTTA project at the closing conference of the TRANSPOGOOD project in Venice. The leading partner of the TRANSPOOGOOD project was the Croatian Intermodal Transport Cluster.
The Director of the Association, Mr. Sandro Vidas, emphasized the importance of cross border transport between Italy and Croatia and the role of the GUTTA project in finding the most environmentally friendly maritime passenger route.

International and Comparative Maritime Law Conference - Current Development and Trends

On September 19 and 20, 2019, the International and Comparative Maritime Law Conference - Current Development and Trends will be held in Dubrovnik. The conference is organized by the Croatian Maritime Law Society and the Inter University Center Dubrovnik.
The Conference will provide the survey of the recent development of international and national regulations in the field of maritime law, which would represent an international co-operation of several Croatian academic institutions that are members of the IUC (University of Zagreb, Adriatic Institute of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, University of Rijeka, and University of Split) with a number of higher education institutions from abroad (University of Bologna, University of Ljubljana, Swansea University, University of Gdansk and the University of Tirana). The scope is to discuss and to compare the legal regulations of different countries and to analyse provisions of the relevant maritime conventions. Speakers will be prominent university professors and other maritime law experts. The Conference is dedicated to interested participants from academia, graduate and postgraduate students, junior researchers, practitioners, law officials from governmental institutions, courts, attorneys, NGOs, etc. The working language is English.

In accordance with the Regulation (EU) 2015/757, for the first time, EMSA has published an analysis of MRV dataset for verified 2018 vessel CO2 emissions.
This Regulation applies to ships above 5 000 gross tonnage in respect of CO2 emissions released during their voyages from their last port of call to a port of call under the jurisdiction of a Member State and from a port of call under the jurisdiction of a Member State to their next port of call, as well as within ports of call under the jurisdiction of a Member State.
According to the results, the dominant contribution of the emission comes from international voyages and the total contribution of the European Union countries is estimated about 1/6 of estimated global emissions.

Green innovations in shipping

On Friday, April 5, 2019, at the premises of the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship, and Crafts, a forum called "Blue Green Hub" was held. The Forum featured innovations in shipping, international practice, and financing opportunities.
Co-organizers of the Forum were: Croatian Mare Nostrum Association, the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce and the Brodarski Institut while the main organizer was the company Hrradi.
Mr. David Sopta, President of the Croatian Shipowners' Association Mare Nostrum, and the President of the Management Board of company Jadrolinija, welcomed the participants and opened the Forum. Other speakers who joined at the opening session were: Mr. Branimir Belančić-Farkaš from the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Boris Vukušić of the Small Shipbuilding Association, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce and Mrs. Barbra Kristofich Ambruš from the company Hrradi.
In the first part of the program, presentations of international practices were held and a Norwegian company, Optimarin AS, responsible for the Ballast Water Treatment Systems was presented by Mrs. Jurrien Baretta, Technical Sales Manager. Also, Mr. Matko Barišić, R&D Manager of the company ABB Marine & Ports HBU Norway, explained proven solutions for blue-green shipping.
Furthermore, Mr. Siniša Reljić, Director of the company Navis Consult which recently has become a member of the Kongsberg Group, presented the importance of Kongsberg's Green Shipbuilding Technology, especially on the offshore market and Ro-Ro ships. Mrs. Erzsebet L. Buizert, Founder and Director of the company, Szalai Scalar Technology, demonstrated the possibility of using scalar energy in the maritime sector.
The second part of the program was focused on presenting the possibilities of financing innovative solutions in shipping. Mr. Karel van Zijl, a Business Development Director of Spliethoff from Amsterdam, presented practices in green technology and processes. Also, Ms. Anne Lise Rognlidalen, a Business Development Director from the company Innovation Norway, explained the possibilities of financing the business development of small and medium-sized enterprises in Croatia. Also, she asked Mr. Vidas to send a request to apply companies Brodospas and JPS at the "Blue Growth" Programme.
At the end of the forum, B2B meetings were organized. Enterprises had the possibility of networking which could result in possible cooperation to boost the competence of the green shipping and in that way strengthen the competitiveness and innovation of the maritime sector in Croatia.

On Friday, March 15, 2019, the 13th session of the Technical Committee of the Croatian Shipowners' Association Mare Nostrum was held on the premises of the Croatian Register of Shipping (CRS) in Split. In the second part of the Session, there was a discussion about the implementation of hydrogen in the maritime sector. Representatives of the Ballard company, the Worthington Industries and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split were present.
The Ballard company presented the advantage of fuel cell solutions and their usage in the maritime sector. Worthington Industries introduced hydrogen tanks that can be used in the maritime sector and allow greater gas storage and guaranteed durability.

The Association, together with Assistant Minister, Mr. Anđelko Petrinić, has convened a meeting of the Assembly of the Croatian Association of Mare Nostrum, which will be held on February 15, 2019, in the premises of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, VII. floor, hall 704.
The long-standing collaboration of the Association and the Ministry is manifested in improving the competitiveness of the Croatian maritime image that contributed to the development of GDP, which was developed by Oxford Economics, which shows that the maritime sector multiplier of 2.1 x on the GDP of the Republic of Croatia.
At joint meetings we will endeavor to further identify the cruel problems in shipping, encourage the raising of Croatian seafarers' standards and digitize new construction.

Tour of the new international passenger terminal Zadar

In Zadar on Friday, January 18, 2019, CSA Mare Nostrum director, Mr. Vidas, held a presentation about enhancing port infrastructure through the Operational Competitiveness and Cohesion Program. Mr. Djani Štambuk, Deputy Director of Port of Zadar Authority, presented a new international passenger terminal Zadar to the director of CSA Mare Nostrum, Mr. Sandro Vidas. The new terminal is planned to be operational in the second quarter of 2019.
