The European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA) organized the European Shipping Summit, which took place in Brussels on March 19 and 20, 2025.
In a time of great global uncertainty, topics related to the decarbonization of shipping and the role of the European Union and European shipowners in that process have prevailed. The importance of European shipping has been underlined repeatedly, both on a global scale and for the economy and security of the European Union. European shipping represents about 35 % of the world's tonnage, European GDP represents about 15 % of the global GDP, and the European population represents 5 % of the total world population.
The Summit brought together notable speakers, including Nobel laureate Paul Krugman, European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Finnish Minister Lulu Ranne, Polish Minister of Infrastructure Paweł Krężel, and many others.
The Executive Director of the European Maritime Safety Agency EMSA, Maja Markovčić Kostelac, and Antonia Bebić, Transport Attaché for Aviation and Maritime at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union, also attended the Summit.
On behalf of HUB Mare Nostrum, the president of the Assembly of the Association and vice-president of the Assembly of the Association participated in the Summit: Marko Domijan and Mario Pavić.
