Signed Collective Agreement for seafarers on ships that carry out transportation in liner coastal shipping

On June 29, 2023, in the morning hours in Rijeka, on the premises of Jadrolinija, the Collective Agreement was signed for seafarers on ships that carry out transportation in coastal maritime traffic.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Vice President of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković, President of the Jadrolinija Board David Sopta, representatives of the Croatian Association of Shipowners Mare Nostrum, representatives of trade union partners and other esteemed guests. The signatories of the agreement are the Croatian Association of Shipowners Mare Nostrum, The Croatian Seamen's Union and the Independent Croatian Passenger Ship Seamen's Union.

We state that the last signing of the Collective Agreement for seafarers in cabotage took place in 1998.

The collective agreement is concluded in good faith in order to promote and maintain social dialogue and harmonious relations between the Croatian Association of Shipowners Mare Nostrum and the Trade Union, which are based on mutual respect for the interests and rights of the members of the Association and the Seafarers.

The new Collective Agreement regulates the labor and social standards on the basis of which seafarers' employment contracts are concluded with shipowners as prescribed by the Act on Transportation in Line and Occasional Coastal Maritime Traffic. The amount of the seamen's allowance, food allowance, as well as the wages of seafarers are increasing. The aim is to extend this collective agreement to the entire activity of liner shipping in order to apply it to all Croatian seafarers and seafarers of other member states of the European Economic Area who sail on ships that carry out transport in liner coastal shipping in the Republic of Croatia in order to ensure the same starting points and the same level labor and social rights.

The President of the Jadrolinija Management Board, David Sopta, emphasized on this occasion that the Collective Agreement is being signed after 25 years, at a time when the protection of the rights of Croatian seafarers is a special focus and absolutely necessary. He emphasized that this Collective Agreement is primarily the result of teamwork and efforts of all parties involved in the negotiations, and thanked all participants in the negotiations.

The collective agreement for seafarers on ships carrying out transportation in liner coastal shipping (2023) comes into force and applies from September 1, 2023 and is available at the following link:
